History of Kink in Switzerland
"HOKIS"
Why?
- Communities from, norm, grow, live, and may fade again - but the people stay around. Where did they come from, what motivates them, what is their perspective now. Which communities exist or existed, with which purpose?
- Interest in "where we came from" and "who was involved" and "how was it before, how is it now"
What?
- "Kink" - All the things we approach from a sex-positive angle: fetish, BDSM, swinging (not an exhaustive list, we'll gladly add more). We do not specifically target topics of gender (or LGBTQI), but focus on the sex-positive aspect regardless of gender or (sexual) identity.
- We list defining events of organisations and people.
- We list series of events or singular events which have a meaning beyond the day when they happened.
- We list political, societal or jurisdictional events which influence the communities more than the society at large.
- "History" - focus on the time from ca 1950 onwards, but we may extend if it provides valuable insights and perspectives.
- "in Switzerland" - Especially in online communities, borders are hard to define and influences across geographic borders are significant. In the offline world, influences across borders (or continents) are also abundant. Due to our capacity, we focus on our local communities in Switzerland. However, we gladly include aspects which noticeably influenced the history of kink in Switzerland from around the world (and especially neighbouring countries).
- Due to the sometime international aspects, and the multitude of languages we should consider, metadata and explanatory texts are primarily in english. The content is primarily in the language favoured by the individuals involved.
- It is planned to put all data under a permissive creative commons license, possibly with some exceptions to cover needs for protection of personally identifable information.
How?
- Chronological timeline collected from various sources (including verification / citing sources, where possible)
- History documents (texts, audio, video, ...) may cover more-or-less precisely definable stretches of time on the chronological timeline (they need to at least be attached to the timeline at one specific date), and may be linked to other items on the timeline.
- The timeline has a granularity of days, but dates can also simply be years or year-months instead of exact dates.
- Items on the timeline can have a start and/or an end.
- On the timeline we will have people (which will often be anon- or pseudonymised), organisations (which will often be non-formal, but may also include legal entities) and connections between all of those, as far as people are willing to share.
- HOKIS has a neutral point of view and does not have a political, religious or other inclination. An editing team will have final editorial decision in case of disputes.
